As you know, our annual Turkey Cookout is a long-time troop tradition held in early November. And, as you probably also know, it takes a LOT of firewood to pit-cook all the turkeys.
Somebody has to cut all that wood, and that somebody is US.
We are planning two woodcutting days, both Sunday afternoons: Aug. 11 and 25.
Here’s what we need:
If you can help one or both days, please call or email Mr. Bryant.
Mr Cranford will be offering the Camping merit badge to the Troop on August 6th and August 27th from 6:30 – 8:30pm in the Scout room. You will need to attend both nights in order to cover all of the material necessary to complete learning and discussion part the badge. ***This is an Eagle required merit badge. ***
This class will be open to all Scouts that need the class but priority will be given to older Scouts if the class becomes too full. Everyone who has not started this class previously should count on taking this class if at all possible. He will also need a couple of adults to assist as this class is usually very full.
If you intend on being there please email Mr. Cranford and let him know as he will need to make copies of the materials needed. Everyone will need to get a copy of the NEW color merit badge book from the Scout shop and read it before the class. You can view the requirements at: http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Camping
I am planning on doing my eagle project during the latter half of this week starting on Wednesday and going through, tentatively, Sunday. Over all there are four work days that I need help on. On the 4th we are walking in Quail Creeks 4th of July Parade. For the new families, this has been an annual event for us for many years. We will meet in the parking lot of the Quail Creek Country Club at 9:00 am. The event is a fully uniformed event (including neckerchiefs).
The parade goes down Quail Creek Road and ends at their park. After we do a flag ceremony, we are done. We have figured out that it is good for parents to work together and drop a car on a side street near the park and then shuttle the kids up to the country club.
Just a reminder that the thrift shop competition will be on Monday, June 10th. Go ahead and get your clothes now.
We are giving out awards for:
and the ever popular “you need to take that back award”
So keep your receipts and may the best shopper win!!
